Carsten Jensen’s ‘Den første sten’ available at Librebook

24th October, BOZAR hosted a literary encounter with Danish author and journalist Carsten Jensen who read from his book Den første sten. Jensen recounted the background for the book and shared his research methods, including several visits to Afghanistan over the past 40 years where he has witnessed the harsh conditions of the soldiers and the locals in the war zone.
War-ridden Afghanistan is the location where the destiny of the group that Jensen depicts in the war novel from 2015, unfolds. It is a fictional account of the war not a journalistic reportage, but the message is clear: “Experiencing the war and what it does to people will change you.”
Den første sten is one of various novels, essay collections and travel diaries, in which Jensen is not afraid to take a political stand and address contemporary issues, such as the Danish participation in the war in Afghanistan.
Carsten Jensen’s monumental work Den første sten is available to buy or order at Librebook in Danish, Dutch (De eerste steen) and French (La première pierre).
